An exciting opportunity has arisen as CFD Engineer (Computational Fluid Dynamics) in Hydrodynamics, part of our Kongsberg Hydrodynamic Research Centre at Kongsberg Maritime in Kristinehamn. In this position, you will use high-end CFD methodologies and tools to support propulsion products and provide company internal consultancy services within hydrodynamics. Qualifications and experience
M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in engineering and experience, in preferable Naval Architecture, Marine Hydrodynamics, Technical Physics, Applied Mathematics or equivalent

High level of English, both written and oral

Are you passionate about marine engineering and eager to shape the future of sustainable propulsion systems? We are now seeking a Propulsion Concept Engineer to join our Propulsion Concept Team. You'll play a key role in early-phase concept development for our propulsion products, including propellers, thrusters, waterjets, or other propulsion solutions, whether as standalone systems or part of integrated propulsion concepts.
In this role, you are responsible for delivering technical evaluations and performance estimates, working closely with designers, product owners, and internal stakeholders across R&D, sales, and engineering. Building strong relationships and connecting with diverse teams and contacts across multiple locations is key to your success. Maintaining a close partnership with the sales support teams for each product ensures our propulsion solutions are backed by solid data and fully aligned with customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform propulsion estimations and hydrodynamic evaluations to support early-phase concept development.
Provide technical input during initial customer interactions.
Collaborate with ship designers to ensure propulsion configurations align with vessel design constraints.
Develop and improve internal tools and methods for propulsion estimation.
Identify and clearly communicate limitations and uncertainties in estimation approaches.
Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in hydrodynamics and CFD.

Qualifications

We are seeking for a driven Propeller Blade Designer, to join our experienced Propulsion Hydrodynamics team in our own Hydrodynamic Research Centre, located in Kristinehamn. As a Propeller Blade Designer, you will closely collaborate with shipyards, ship designers and ship owners to transform their requirements into efficient and sustainable solutions. Using CFD and model testing, you develop and adapt propeller and rudder designs to meet specific customer needs. Our unique testing facility with cavitation tunnels allow us to deliver cutting-edge solutions tailored to each vessel and according to expectations.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as Hydrodynamicist Rudder, a part of the Propulsion Hydrodynamic organisation at Kongsberg Maritime. In this position you support rudder sales initiatives as a specialist and are responsible for hydrodynamic design principles of rudder products. The location for this position is in Kristinehamn (Sweden) or Ulsteinvik (Norway) or Ålesund (Norway).
We are looking for a motivated person with a passion for ship propulsion and hydrodynamic engineering that can deliver to meet our customer´s requirements and expectations. In this role you will lead hydrodynamic research projects for propulsion products and take part of quality investigations as a hydrodynamic expert and analysist. You engage with the technical sales support team and ship designers to bring hydrodynamics close to sales, customers and ship owners. You develop and maintain sales support tools in cooperation with the rudder department.
As a Hydrodynamicist you are the go-to specialist within the field of rudder hydrodynamics. You engage with rudder engineering - and R&D team to maintain and develop rudder product standards. You work with the methods development team and support their work to improve existing tools and implement new methods. You have contact with external specialist environments, as model basins and classification societies to contribute to Kongsberg Maritime's hydrodynamical reputation. Travel will be included in this role.
Qualifications and experience
You have an BSc or MSc with knowledge in hydrodynamics, fluid mechanics or Naval Architecture. We prefer that you have experience of project management, maybe in multifunctional projects. Programming knowledge (one or more of the following: Python, C#, C++, Fortran) and high level of English.
